Defiance City School Residents You Have a Choice

A tuition free private education is possible.

The State of Ohio has released their EdChoice Scholarship designated school list for 2020-2021 and Defiance City School District residents are now eligible.

EdChoice provides opportunities for Ohio students who are assigned to underperforming schools to attend a participating private school with significant financial assistance. This aid is not need-based. The scholarship is applicable for the 2021-2022 school year and continues through grade 8, even if the assigned public school is removed from the EdChoice list at any point. St. John Lutheran School is an Educational Choice (EdChoice) Scholarship Provider school.

What this means is that the choice of where you send your student to school can be decided by you, not your address.

The EdChoice scholarship amount is $4650 per year for grades K-8. Students who will be entering Kindergarten in the 2021/2022 school year who attend PreK at St. John Lutheran School are also eligible. The application period will begin on  February 1st. This grant may not last beyond the next school year and is available only on a first applied, first awarded basis. For more information on the EdChoice Scholarship, visit
