Students at St. John are encouraged to participate in volleyball and or basketball. Cheerleading squads are also organized each year for 4th through 8th grade. Girls in grades 1 through 3 have the opportunity to participate in Tiger Cubs. This is a pep squad style group. The younger girls learn some routines and hand motions to encourage the Tiger basketball teams.
Volleyball is offered as a girls' team sport in September and October each year. Teams are comprised as follows:
- 4th, 5th, and 6th grade girls
- 7th and 8th grade girls

Basketball is offered for both boys and girls starting each year in November. The season finishes in February with tournaments being held usually the third week in February.
4 basketball teams are offered as follows:
- 4th, 5th, and 6th grade girls
- 4th, 5th, and 6th grade boys
- 7th and 8th grade girls
- 7th and 8th grade boys.
A golf clinic is offered in August each summer.
Sports physicals are required to participate in the sports program and can be obtained from your family physician or at school in May. Students will be notified in advance of the date when Drs. Bill and Jack Lorenz will be present to do physicals.
