This program is designed to enhance your home school program. Students may choose individual classes to attend at St. John Lutheran School. Cost will be on a per class basis.

Attendance Policy?
Parent(s) or guardian(s) must notify the school on the day a student is absent unless previous notification has been given by personal, telephone, or written contact by the parent(s)/guardian(s). Other specific information in regard to school attendance is listed in the school handbook.
What is St. John School’s Discipline Policy?
Teachers will interact with children in accordance with the teachings and example of Christ. Discipline is employed as a means to teach self-control, Christian attitudes, orderliness, and efficiency. Each teacher will establish routine procedures to assist in the development of discipline, teamwork and respect for authority. A code of conduct is available in the school handbook.
What is St. John School’s Grading System?
St. John strives to motivate students to succeed. Emphasis in the instructional program is given to making achievement both recognizable and possible for students. This includes various areas of evaluation including testing, homework, assignments, and participation in class.
Grading Standards-For most subject areas the following scale is used:
90 -100% = A
80 - 89% = B
70 - 79% = C
60 - 69% = D
Below 60% = F
Grading Periods - Four grading periods are used. These quarters are normally nine weeks in duration.
Report Cards/Interim Reports - report cards are issued as the conclusion of each of the four grading periods in grades K-8. They are distributed during the week following the end of the grading period. Interim reports are given at mid-quarter to those students showing noteworthy improvement or showing a low quality of work which needs to be brought to the attention of the parents. The number of students who receive these is at the teacher’s discretion.
5 day/week class............... $125.00 per semester
4 days/week class.............. $100.00 per semester
3 days/week class............... $75.00 per semester
Payment Options Available:
Payment in full is requested by the beginning of each semester before the classes start. If necessary, monthly payment arrangements may be made with the Principal.
When do the semesters begin and end?
1st Semester: August 26 - January 16
2nd Semester: January 20 - June 5
Lunch Prices:
K-6 ..........$1.75 per day
7 & 8 ..........$1.85 per day
Federal Reduced Price K-8 ..........$.40 per day
All pupils are invited to participate in the hot lunch program. Payment for lunch should be made on a weekly or monthly basis by buying tickets from the school bookkeeper any day before the start of school hours.
Federal Program - St. John participates in the Federal Free and Reduced Lunch Program for those families who meet the requirements set by Federal guidelines. Letters and application forms are distributed to all families at the beginning of the school year. However, families may apply at any time during the school year when they feel they qualify.
Sports Program:
Taking classes does qualify students for participation in St. John Lutheran Sports program. Ask for information in the school office.

When are the classes scheduled?
Classes are available during their regularly scheduled times. Your students would join with other students of their age in a classroom setting. Times and descriptions are as follows:
2008 Class Offerings
Algebra, Pre Algebra, and Math Classes
5th & 6th grade Math Classes
2nd period/5 days - Both Semesters
Description:
-Saxon Series with reviews each day on the previous math concepts learned
-Covers basic math facts as well as polygons, word problems, ratios, percent, averages, and points on a Coordinate Graph
7th grade Math Class
4th period/5 days - Both Semesters
Description:
-Basic math skills appropriate to the 7th grade level together with the beginnings of Algebra and Geometry (solving equations, measuring, and constructing geometric figures, etc.)
8th grade Pre Algebra Class
4th period/5 days - Both Semesters
Description:
-Basic 8th grade class/using Glencoe math series
-Correlates with Ohio Academic Content Standards
-Basic content includes all the tools of Algebra in a more capsuled form than Algebra I
8th grade Algebra 1 Class
5th period/5 days - Both Semesters
Description:
-Students will need to be tested for entry into Algebra 1
-Offered to advanced math students in 8th grade
-Enables these students to enter high school at an advanced math level
-All the tools of Algebra plus preparation for geometry, etc.
9th period/4 days - 1st Semester only
Description:
- Concentration on grid drawings, shapes, primary colors & basic drawing, lines & construction
7th - 8th grade Art
9th period/4 days - 2nd Semester only
Description:
- Art appreciation, drawing, shading, well-known artists & works
- One and two-point perspective, interpretation and style
5th & 6th grade Computer Class
9th period/4 days (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday) - 1st Semester only
Description:
-Keyboarding skills
-Word processing skills using Apple Works, including formatting a document, adding appropriate clip art, etc.
-The beginnings of creating and working with a database using Apple Works
7th & 8th grade Computer Class
9th period/ 4 days (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday) - 2nd Semester only
Description:
-Continuing the study of databases
-The beginnings of creating and working with a spreadsheet using Apple Works.
-Using Hyper Studio to create presentations that can be used as the basis for making school reports
-Using iMovie to edit digital video projects
-Using i Photo to work with digital photographs
5th Grade Language Arts
6th & 7th Period/5 days - Both Semesters
“DARE” held each Wednesday/first semester only(12:55-1:30 pm)
Description:
- Primary focus: spelling, vocabulary, reading & correct grammar usage
- Emphasis on the eight parts of speech.
- Complete 4 book reports, one per quarter
- Weekly spelling test
- Keep a journal
6th grade Language Arts
6th & 7th period/5 days - Both Semesters
Description:
-Reading and discussion of age appropriate stories, essays, and poems
-English skills such as identifying parts of speech, parts of a sentences, writing paragraphs, etc.
-The learning of age appropriate spelling words
7th grade Language Arts
7th & 8th period/5 days - Both Semesters
* Students who are in band, will go every Tuesday and Friday from 1:55 - 2:50 pm
Description:
- Primary focus: spelling vocabulary, literature, & correct grammar usage
- Read Where The Red Fern Grows as a class in the 3rd quarter
- Complete 4 book reports, one per quarter
- Weekly spelling test
- Keep a journal
8th grade Language Arts
7th & 8th period/5 days - Both Semesters
Description:
- Weekly spelling tests
- Grammar lessons & practices
- Literature comprehension, review, literary terms & vocabulary
- Write a research paper & create yearbook
5th - 8th grade Religion Classes
1st period/5 days - Both Semesters
Description:
-Weekly Scripture verses for memory work
-Concentration on Bible events and stories 4 days/week
-1 day/week chapel service often led by each class or one of the teachers
5th & 6th grade Science Class
8th period/5 days - Both semesters
Description:
-Covers basic science topics appropriate to the 5th-6th grade level including labs and demonstrations
-Correlates with Ohio Academic content standards
7th and 8th grade Science Class
2nd period/5 days - Both semesters
Description:
- covers the study of one-celled organisms through complex plants and animals including labs and dissections
- covers the physical sciences including the Periodic table, machines, laws of motion, etc. Labs and demonstrations
5th - 6th grade Social Studies
4th period/5 days - Both semesters
Description:
- Both U. S. & world history
- Learn continents, oceans, states
- Map, graph, chart skills
- Christian view of creation, matter, & history of U. S.
7th - 8th grade Social Studies
6th period/5 days - Both Semesters
Description:
- Christian view of creation, matter, & U. S. History
- U. S. history (alternating years 1861 - Present & beginnings - 1877)
- Read maps, graphs, and charts
- Heavy concentration on Constitution
- Memorize Star-Spangled Banner, Preamble, Declaration of Independence
5th & 6th grade Spanish Class
3rd period/3 days (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) - 2nd Semester only
