Third grade marks the end of the primary years for students. That means students must begin to get ready for the middle school years but still be& able to be primary students. At St. John, we begin to do a lot of projects and group work with the students. Some of the 3rd grade activities include:

  • Religion every day with chapel on Thursdays
  • Chapel service leadership once a year
  • Choir every Tuesday afternoon
  • Book projects for reading State reports
  • Defiance Public Library author Visit at Defiance College
  • Defiance Police Department safety belt presentation
  • Reading Counts tests for trade books
  • Enrichment activities with reading series
  • Christmas Around the World activities
  • Trip to Grand rapids and the canal boat experience
  • Service projects:
  • St. Jude Childrens' Research Hospital Math-a-thon
  • American Hear Association Jump Rope for Heart
  • St. John food pantry support

There is also much time spent on working on relationships between students and how students should treat one another with respect. Jesus is a part of our school day in all areas as we discuss what Jesus would want us to do.
